Human Factors

Risktec helps to improve the safe and efficient performance of facilities and systems by considering the capabilities and limitations of people throughout the design lifecycle. We provide a service based upon practical experience of Human Factors (HF) in industry, and by the application of standards, good practice and current academic theory.

Our philosophy is to work closely with our clients to ensure that HF considerations are appropriately and effectively addressed, enabling early resolution of HF issues and demonstration of compliance with relevant standards and legislation.

Risktec is a Registered Consultancy with the UK Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF). Our HF team is led by senior Chartered Ergonomist & HF Specialists (C.ErgHF) who provide global HF support to organisations across high-hazard industries, including the oil, gas and chemical, transportation, civil nuclear, clean energy and defence sectors.

Our services

  • HF strategic development and implementation, including development of company standards and guidance and helping to build internal HF capability and competence.
  • HF Engineering (HFE) support to major design projects, including Human Factors Integration (HFI) planning, ergonomics assessments and studies, HFE issues management and production of HFE closure evidence.
  • Ergonomics design assessments, including control room studies, workplace and cab design reviews, assessment of equipment and skid packaged units, 3D model CAD reviews, Valve Criticality Analysis (VCA), etc.
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) assessments, including alarm system design and review.
  • Development of improved procedures and work instructions, including updating existing procedures to ensure usability.
