Experienced HAZOP leaders seeking an internationally recognised certification.

Attendees on the course must have the ability to read and interpret P&IDs.

Exercises and worked examples are based on process safety hazards associated with oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical industries.

The following requirements must be met for candidates to attain the HAZOP Leader (TÜV):

  • a minimum of 5 years’ experience in HAZOP (HAZOP team member, HAZOP scribe, HAZOP facilitator)
  • university degree (master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline) or equivalent engineer level responsibilities with status certified by employer
  • attendance on the course
  • successful completion of continuous assessment
  • successful completion of the examination

On meeting these requirements, candidates will be issued with a PersCert TÜV certificate from TÜV Rheinland. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

At the end of the course you should be able to:

  1. Critically review the HAZOP technique and examples of output
  2. Analyse how the HAZOP technique can be applied at the different stages of a project’s lifecycle such as FEED, detailed design, revalidation and decommissioning
  3. Prepare for a HAZOP workshop, determine the skills and actions necessary to lead a HAZOP and how to generate a HAZOP report

Continuous assessment

Activity-based continuous assessment during delivery is used to assess HAZOP leadership skills.
Candidates who are successful in the continuous assessment will be invited to take the examination.

Exam: 4 hours

Part 1: Written assessment.

Part 2: Multiple-choice and short answer questions.

Candidates must achieve 60% in both parts of the exam to be awarded the HAZOP Leader (TÜV) certificate.
