Materials Management Strategies (MMS)
Offshore decommissioning projects are not solely complex engineering challenges, ultimately they are materials (waste) management projects that have inherent environmental and reputational risks requiring careful management.
We have experience of managing and supporting consideration of the following:
- What materials will be generated as a result of decommissioning?
- Where are those materials going and what is known about the yards/subcontractors?
- What will be reused, recycled, sent for energy recovery, disposed?
- Will the materials management achieve the project materials management targets? Are targets aligned to stakeholder expectations?
- What needs to be done and when to achieve compliant materials management that meets or exceeds the project targets?
Capability
- Understanding materials management roles & responsibilities throughout decommissioning, including contractual ownership versus waste Duty of Care
- Development and implementation of MMS, encompassing Active Waste Management Plans, tailored to individual project needs & aligned to the contracting arrangement to be employed, e.g. Engineering, Preparation, Removal, and Disposal (EPRD)
- Development of project materials management targets & decommissioning contract scopes of work with regard to materials management
- Assurance assessment of decommissioning materials management contractors, including auditing of prospective yards
