We are seeking highly motivated and dynamic nuclear engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience to join our Warrington team (location flexible). The successful candidates will support the delivery of major projects within the nuclear power generation sector, primarily at Heysham 2 but there will also be opportunities to support to other EDF stations, Nuclear New Build and decommissioning preparations.

Role Description:

Risktec provides multiple development opportunities for engineers, including:

  • Opportunities to manage individuals and work packages of work at an early career stage.
  • Support to individuals working towards Chartership with a number of engineering institutes.
  • Access to a university postgraduate education programme, delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, including the opportunity to enroll on the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Risk and Safety Management, with the opportunity to progress to Master’s Degree (MSc) level.
  • Opportunities to support non-technical projects and other Company initiatives e.g. winning work, industry networking and learning, developing training courses, development of techniques and tool-kits to deliver more efficiently.
  • The potential to support other Risktec sectors such as oil and gas, clean energy, transport, defence and conventional power in the future. There is also the potential to support other Risktec offices around the world as you develop.

 
Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of major safety cases, including:
  • Authoring, verification and management of engineering change documentation
  • Undertaking specialist hazards reviews such as seismic assessments
  • Supporting probabilistic safety assessments (PSA).
  • Production of formal technical reports, safety cases and other project deliverables on time and to budget.
  • Implementation of modifications to plant, including:
    • Undertaking plant obsolescence assessments
    • Authoring specifications for new equipment
    • Reviewing design proposals and producing design substantiation reports
    • Authoring testing and commissioning strategies and functional test procedures.
  • Support plant operability, including:
    • Condition monitoring and identification of plant faults
    • Supporting equipment reliability reviews, including plant walk downs
    • Reviewing maintenance routines/strategy.
  • Management of projects, including:
    • Responding to client requests for support
    • Accurately costing project tasks
    • Managing resource to ensure project delivery within budget
    • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards, methods, data and use of appropriate software.


Key requirements:

  • Risktec will consider relevant science and engineering disciplines, such as:
    • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
    • Control and Instrumentation (C&I)
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Physics and Nuclear Physics.
  • Experience in delivering nuclear safety cases is desirable.
  • Previous experience working in the nuclear industry, particularly with EDF is desirable.
  • EDF AV3 qualification (or equivalent) is minimum.
  • EDF AV2 qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Highly computer literate.
  • Hold a minimum of BPSS security clearance or are eligible to obtain it.


Personal qualities:

  • Able to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently where needed.
  • Clear communication skills are essential, both verbal and written, and strong organisational skills and attention to detail are critical.
  • Strong analytical and logical skills are essential.
  • Able to travel within the UK.

Due to the nature of the work, the candidates must have a suitable background that will allow them to achieve UK security clearance (please note that this is very difficult to achieve within the timescales for non UK nationals and you will be subject to a screening process prior to interview to ensure that you meet the security clearance criteria).
