Senior Oil and Gas, Chemical and Clean Energy Safety Consultants – Warrington
Risktec currently has vacancies across a range of UK locations for consultants experienced in risk and safety management.  In particular we are looking for consultants to be based in our Warrington head office to support clients in one or more of the following sectors:

  • oil and gas (offshore and onshore exploration, production, decommissioning)
  • clean energy (hydrogen generation and distribution, offshore and onshore wind, carbon capture and storage, biofuels, energy storage)
  • chemical manufacturing, handling, storage and distribution

Role Description
The successful candidate will be part of an energetic, expanding team, and will be expected to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues on multiple projects, across multiple offices, in a supportive, progressive environment. Risktec undertakes a broad range of study types for both small and large multi-disciplinary projects. You will have opportunities to work with a diverse range of clients, nationally and internationally, and to lead or support a wide variety of technical safety studies and services.
Day-to-day activities will include:

  • Scoping and identifying new work, developing associated methodologies and preparing competitive bids
  • Managing and technically leading projects to provide high quality deliverables on budget and schedule
  • Liaising with clients to communicate project progress, capture requirements and build relationships
  • Mentoring of junior team members and delegation of work to ensure both project delivery and overall team development
  • Technical report writing, numerical and qualitative analysis and use of commercial and internally developed software and methods

This permanent position would be based at our Warrington office, but our other office locations will also be considered.  The role would involve travel both within the UK and world-wide locations to meet project and client requirements.
Experience
Applicants should have a relevant science or engineering degree, and possess strong analytical thinking, numerical, written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in some of the following areas:

  • Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) for a range of facility types including both onshore and offshore environments, and emerging technologies (e.g. hydrogen, wind, battery)
  • Qualitative risk assessment and risk management using recognized, best practice techniques applicable to a range of industries
  • Safety management systems and implementation in high risk industries
  • Fire, explosion and gas dispersion consequence and exceedance modelling, involving both phenomelogical and more advanced CFD-based methods
  • Initiating event frequency and reliability analysis (e.g. parts count, fault and event trees, reliability block diagrams etc.)
  • Supporting or facilitating hazard identification and risk assessment workshops such as HAZOP, LOPA and/or HAZID, Bowtie, etc.,
  • Devising key risk management arguments including prioritisation of risks, identification of risk reduction measures, and ALARP demonstration
  • Understanding the UK and international legislative regimes (e.g. COMAH, SEVESO,, Offshore Safety Case, DSEAR, ATEX, OSHA, etc.)

To support the above activities, and development of the associated deliverables, the candidate must be able to produce accurate and concise reports and well-reasoned evaluation to drew conclusions. 
Experience in the application of commercial software packages such as SAFETI, PHAST, FRED, SHEPHERD, FLACS-CFD, FDS, bowtie XP, PHApro and Reliability / Availability Workbench is also advantageous.
