As part of the TUV family Risktec Resourcing have been tasked to assist our sister company TUV Rheinland Industrial Services (TRIS) formerly ABB’s UK technical engineering consultancy to source a Piping & Mechanical Department Head on a permanent basis in there Warrington, UK Office.

Role Description
The suitable person must be a graduate mechanical engineer (prefferably chartered) with a min 10 years experience managing design teams. The Piping & Mechanical Department Head must also be conversant with stress analysis (but does not need to be an expert), 2D/3D modelling (Autocad, plant 3D, E3D,), design verification processes and will be the approval authority for all piping and mechanical design packages.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the Mechanical & Piping Engineering Team
  • Supervise and allocate work to engineers and designers
  • Prepare scopes of work and estimates to support proposals
  • Deliver the engineering design scope to budgets and programmes
  • Co-ordinate/liaise with other Engineering disciplines/client/package vendors
  • Design authority for all piping and mechanical design packages
  • Prepare, check and/or approve design calculations, specifications, data sheets, reports, scope of work and drawings to British/International Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and client standards
  • Provide specialist design input to 3D models
  • Prepare Technical Analysis of proposals provided by equipment manufacturers and contractors
  • Interpret vendor and other discipline drawings/information
  • Attend and participate in safety reviews, risk reviews, planning reviews, model reviews and constructability reviews
  • Identify and raise scope changes
  • Comply with Company Quality Manager Systems
  • Other professional duties as reasonably required

 
Key skills required:

  • Background in Heavy Engineering/Chemical/Petrochemical/Oil & Gas Industries preferred
  • Rxperience in management of mechanical & piping design teams
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering (Chartered status preferred)
  • English – written, spoken and technical
  • Other languages beneficial but not essential
  • Ability to convert data sheets or technical communications into Engineering Documents
  • Experience or knowledge of pipework stress analysis
  • Ability to read drawings from other Engineering disciplines
  • Ability to design/work to International Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Ability to Liaise/co-ordinate work with other disciplines
  • Awareness of Quality Management System philosophy
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, piping layout, stress analysis, and materials selection
  • Experience (minimum 8-10 years) in mechanical and piping engineering within the EPCm, sector including oil & gas, chemical and petrochemical industries
  • Proficiency in industry codes and standards, such as ASME, API, and ANSI
  • Deep knowledge of AutoCAD, Plant 3D, PDMS (Aveva E3D)
  • Sound knowledge of M&P engineering and design, whilst also having a sound knowledge of the other disciplines (Instrumentation, Civil / Structural, and Process)
  • Experience of leading design verification processes
