Human Failures & Safety Critical Task Analysis
This Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF) Accredited Short Course is designed to provide attendees with the necessary baseline knowledge and skills to be understand human failures and to be able to undertake Safety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA).
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- Define what is meant by Human Factors
- Understand the key legislation and guidance that is relevant to the application of Human Factors within the UK oil & gas sector
- Understand how human failures can contribute to accidents, and be able to identify credible human errors and violations
- Identify PIFs that can make human failures more likely, and understand how systems, tasks and processes can be designed to minimise their effects
- Understand the process to be followed for human failure identification and assessment, and the different approaches that are available
- Understand the detailed steps involved in SCTA
- Demonstrate experience in working through the SCTA process, including initial screening of activities and detailed HFA.

What prior study is recommended?
Some understanding of health & safety risk assessment and risk management principles is desirable.

Natasha is a Human Factors Consultant with over 9 years’ experience undertaking a wide variety of applied consultancy work across high hazard industries, in particular the oil and gas, rail and nuclear sectors. She is an experienced Project Manager with technical expertise gained across a wide range of projects completed in Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific. Natasha’s particular areas of interest and specialist technical expertise include: HFE integration in projects; human error identification and risk reduction (including Safety Critical Task Analysis); control room & HMI design reviews; 3D model / physical workspace design reviews; Valve Criticality Analysis; review of procedures and emergency contingency plans; human factors in safety cases; and safety culture.
